Ten years of senior leadership in the African bioenergy industry. Currently Chief Operating Officer of Enoil Bioenergies. Enoil Bioenergies SA is an innovative Swiss biotechnology and renewable energy company. Enoil Bioenergies SA are currently developing a zero emissions Biocentre in Switzerland which include a Biorefinery and Biodiesel processing plant, Biomass power plant and Solar greenhouses for the production of microalgae.

From 2008 to 2016 he was Executive Officer of Addax Bioenergy SA. He was recruited to pioneer a ground-breaking bioenergy project in Sierre Leone, Africa, which grew to a workforce of 4100 employees achieving the full compliance of stringent sustainability and certification standards.

Addax Bioenergy is a Greenfield renewable energy and agriculture operation that produces bio-ethanol for export and for domestic use and generates “green” electricity for approximately 20 percent of the national grid. Initiated in 2008, the operation is recognised as a model for sustainable investment in Africa.

The operation is the first in Sierra Leone to be registered as a Clean Development Mechanism project under the United Nations (UNFCCC). It is also the first biofuels entity on the African continent that has earned certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB). The operation consists of a sugarcane estate, an ethanol refinery and a biomass power plant that provides electricity to Sierra Leone’s national power grid.

Mr Sandström is Board member of World Bioenergy Association. Previously he spent over 20 years developing and managing complex projects with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, several international organizations and business start-ups for the Swedish Armed Forces. He graduated with a degree in political science and economics, and holds a postgraduate degree in International Organisations, from Uppsala University in Sweden.
